Book Review: Albion’s Seed — Book review · Apr 2016

Summary

A short, pleased follow-up to Scott's Albion's Seed review: Han et al's identity-by-descent clustering of 770,000 North American genomes confirms the New Englander and Quaker migration patterns spreading west (and Mormons as displaced New Englanders), an 'elegant example of hard science confirming historical speculation'. Notes puzzles (three Southern clusters instead of Fischer's expected two; missing confirmation that 'Left Coasters' are displaced New Englanders) and the boring-alternative caveat (maybe it's just latitudinal bands). Brief and derivative of the prior review + the study.

Why this score

Quality 61 · Strong. Solid+ (61): a fun, well-observed genomics-confirms-history note, but short and dependent on the Albion's-Seed review and the Han et al study for its substance.

Claude’s paradigm shift 42 · Moderate. Moderate (42): the genetic confirmation is a fresh data point rather than an original argument.

Real-world impact 2 · Minor. Minor-plus (2): niche interest within the Albion's-Seed/HBD-adjacent readership; limited footprint.
